On-Hold FAQ's

Q - We never leave people on hold for long. Why bother with a recorded message?
A - We find that most companies claiming to leave people on hold for fifteen seconds or less are usually leaving callers on hold for much longer periods of time than that. For the caller, it seems endless. Even if the caller is only on hold for fifteen seconds, you can deliver an effective marketing message in that time. How many fifteen second TV ads do you see? Hundreds. With on-hold messaging, you are not competing with the clutter of hundreds of other TV ads--you have the caller to yourself.

Q - How Much Does On-Hold Messaging Cost?
A - A full list of prices is on our “prices” page. The good news is that quality on-hold messaging is more affordable than ever through companies like RTI. Most on hold companies refuse to sell you the equipment and recording - it’s much more lucrative for them to set you up in a “program” that allows them to charge you monthly.  Don’t fall for it - we carry the same equipment, plus quality scriptwriting and recordings for less.

Q - Does RTI On-Hold lease or sell on-hold equipment outright?
A - As mentioned above, we do not get involved in the lease game, which benefits only the on-hold companies who offer the leases. If you are currently leasing an on-hold unit with a schedule of updated recordings for hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year--talk to us. For less than you are paying--you will own your on-hold equipment. Since the equipment we carry is the best in the world, and the most rugged, you will have an on-hold unit that will serve you for many years--at substantial savings.

Q - How does on-hold equipment connect to a phone system?
A - An on-hold messaging unit connects to the music-on-hold circuit of most business phone systems. Many businesses (illegally) connect a radio to this circuit. An on-hold unit simply replaces the radio.

Q - Is the equipment digital or tape based?
A - All our on-hold equipment is digital, meaning there is clean, clear sound for callers on hold for the life of the recording. The difference between on hold equipment lies in the form the original recording comes to you in - cassette, CD, Smartmedia card, Compact Flash card, etc.

Q - We have hundreds of phone extensions (desksets). How many on-hold units are needed?
A - Only one on-hold unit is needed for each phone system, regardless of the number of extensions (desksets) on the system. We have customers with hundreds of extensions on their systems, and customers with only two extensions. If your business is small and you don’t even have a business telephone system, you still have alternatives for doing on hold messaging.  Call us so we can detail the issues for you.

Q - How difficult is it to change recordings?
A - As easy as popping a new tape or CD in your home stereo system. Pop in the new flash card, USB drive or CD. The on hold unit recognizes that a new recording has been installed and begins playing it for callers on hold. The entire process will take you about 10 seconds
